Buenos Aires, Argentina & Punta del Este, Uruguay Hot Travel Picks For The Holidays!
January 29, 2010
If you’re a sun worshipper, why not spend the holidays in Argentina & Uruguay? It’s the peak of the summer season and the dollar is very strong. The cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires, known as the Paris of South America, is beautiful this time of year.
I’m not usually a ‘chain hotel’ type of guy but I was very impressed with the Palacio Duhau - Park Hyatt Buenos Aires. When I first arrived at the front gate, I thought it was an Embassy building. The Oak Bar soon became my favorite watering hole. The room had a great private club feel and you had the option to sit on the terrace with a wonderful view of the private gardens. The Sunday Brunch at the historic Alvear Palace Hotel was superb as always.
If you’re looking for a quiet, resort style stay that feels like you have stepped back in time, I highly recommend the Hotel Nirvana in Colonia Suiza, Uruguay. The hotel offers a fabulous full pension plan. There are planned daily activities for kids and adults and No TV’s in the rooms. Yes, I said no TV’s! But there is an Olympic size pool w/ high dive, Indoor Pool, Sauna, Spa, Tennis Courts, Golf driving range, Movie room, Horseback riding and more!
Arriving at the Punta del Este airport, you’ll find there are more private Jets than commercial aircraft parked at the airport. The beaches are marvelous and offers something for everyone. The Playa Mansa has shallow quiet water (more my speed) and the Playa Brava has the rougher waves. This beach town is very popular with the European & Argentina jet-set and offers great hotels, casino, entertainment, dining, and of course, reserved umbrellas & lounges on the beach.
Have fun!.
